Unknown artist: Moon Dial
paint on bronze, 10″ diameter
Project Highlights
A moon dial, part of an antique grandfather clock, had a discolored varnish and very unstable paint that was cleaving from the surface with some flakes lost and a clumsy overpaint restoration. We stabilized the metal corrosion, consolidated the paint and inpainted the lost image. Removing the discolored coating revealed the original bright painting. The metal received a thin wax protective coating on the unpainted surfaces to protect from future corrosion.
