Conservation Treatments
We have conservators in the specialties of paintings, paper and objects conservation.
Working as a team, we draw on our wealth of learned experience to produce extremely high quality and thoughtful work. Treatment work is bolstered by our formal conservation training and based on a combined 100 years of experience examining and treating art, cultural and archival materials. We use the latest techniques rooted in proven conservation principles to preserve, clean, stabilize, repair and restore treasured artwork, objects and archival materials. Analyzing the causes of deterioration and damage, we improve the condition, appearance and value of the materials we treat, with the overarching goal of ensuring ongoing preservation.
Professional Ethics
Our conservators have post-graduate university degrees in conservation and adhere to the ethical guidelines of the Canadian Association for Conservation of Cultural Property (CAC) and the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC). We provide treatments based on examination and evidence, use reversible materials, minimize intervention while improving appearance, and ensuring stability of the objects we treat; this in turn provides full retention of authenticity and value.
Scientific Approach and Techniques
Modern conservation calls for the use of state-of-the art equipment, tools and a full array of conservation materials, supplies and chemicals to provide the best outcome; our lab is one of the most well-equipped facilities in Canada. Our conservators constantly seek out new methods and materials to tailor treatments and prioritize safety of the object whether in the lab or on-site conserving and maintaining public art. Our modern and scientific techniques are balanced with an intuition born of decades of experience.
