Conservation Assessments and Consulting

FSR conservators have carried out over 50 conservation assessments and condition surveys for Canadian and American museums, archives and corporate spaces.

We analyze collection condition, preservation conditions (humidity, temperature, light, pollutants, pests and mould), storage and exhibit materials and techniques, handling, security and collections care policy and programs.  We have assessed collection condition, preservation conditions and conservation programs in diverse cultural organizations as the Contemporary Craft Gallery in Portland OR, the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas, NV, the City of Ottawa Art in Public Places program, the International Monetary Fund Archives in Washington, DC and Crown Life Insurance.  Our firm has been on the list of designated assessors for the Conservation Assessment Program, Heritage Preservation Program, USA.

Our accumulated experience in conservation assessments and consulting has provided us with a depth of knowledge that benefits our work in preventive conservation.  We have carried out museum move analyses and written move manuals.  We have also completed storage space analyses and storage plans for museums and for archives.

We have experience working as conservators in public museums, galleries and archives, well-versed with conservation practice and documentation in institutions, and the dovetailing of conservation concerns with museum, gallery and archival functions.  Within corporate spaces, we can assist curators to understand the condition of their collections and their conservation needs, and the way in which artwork value can be preserved in a corporate space.

Presently, we provide conservation assessments for cultural institutions on a very limited basis.
